EZGO TXT lithium conversion: 36V or 48V, kits and what else you need

Last updated

Short answer: First check your TXT's voltage: six 6V batteries means 36V, six 8V means 48V. A 48V TXT (TXT48) takes a 48V lithium kit such as Epoch's 105Ah kit ($2,299, with TXT brackets, charge port and a 12V converter) or Vatrer's 105Ah kit ($1,579.99). A 36V TXT either gets a 36V lithium kit, or a planned 48V upgrade with a 48V-rated controller and solenoid.

The EZGO TXT has been built since the mid-1990s, and the right lithium kit depends on one thing first: whether your cart runs at 36V or 48V. This guide shows how to check, compares the 48V kits we track for the TXT, and lays out what changes if you want to move a 36V TXT up to 48V. Prices and specs come from the sellers' own pages, checked November 3, 2026.

Step 1: is your TXT 36V or 48V?

Lift the seat and count the lead-acid batteries, then read the voltage printed on top of one. Multiply the two. Six 6V batteries make a 36V cart; six 8V batteries make a 48V cart. E-Z-GO sold the TXT at 36V for many years and later added the factory-48V TXT48 (Alltrax's TXT install guide lists the TXT48 from 2008 on). If the batteries have already been swapped, check the label on the controller or the charger plug, or run your serial through our cart identifier.

Step 2a: a 48V TXT takes a 48V kit

A 48V TXT is the easy case. One 51.2V LiFePO4 pack replaces the whole lead-acid bank, and the stock motor and controller stay. Both brands below are 105Ah or more, 200A continuous, and come with a lithium charger.

Epoch's kit is the most complete box for a TXT, with brackets and a charge port made for the cart, a 12V converter already included and an 11-year limited warranty. Vatrer's kit costs about $650-$720 less and is UL 2271 listed, and the 150Ah version gives roughly 43% more range if it fits your bay. Our Epoch vs Vatrer comparison and 105Ah vs 150Ah guide go deeper on both choices.

Step 2b: a 36V TXT has two honest paths

Stay at 36V. A 36V lithium kit replaces the six 6V batteries and nothing else on the cart changes. Epoch, for example, lists a 36V 100Ah complete kit. You get lithium's lower weight, no watering and steadier voltage on hills, and the cart keeps its stock speed.

Move up to 48V. This is a system upgrade, not a battery swap. The stock 36V controller and solenoid aren't rated for 48V, so a 48V pack on a stock 36V TXT can damage them. A 48V conversion usually means a 48V-rated controller, a heavy-duty solenoid, heavier main cables (2 gauge is common) and a 48V lithium charger, plus a check that your motor is rated for 48V. Alltrax's TXT install guide, for example, notes that its AC kit on a 36V PDS cart requires changing the batteries and charger from 36V to 48V. If you're going this way, pair the pack with a complete 48V drive kit. Options we track for the TXT include the Plum Quick The Kraken Navitas 5KW-600 Amp DC to AC Conversion Kit with OTF for EZ-GO Sepex/PDS/TXT ($1,999), the Navitas TAC2 440A E-Z-GO TXT 4kW (1206HB) w/CAN 222-48VCANTXTTAC2-4 ($1,945) and the Teekon 9kW AC kit + 840A controller, EZGO TXT PK-000052 ($1,395), and for DC carts the Curtis Albright 36/48/72V Heavy Duty Solenoid (Plum Quick) ($175, specs unverified) and 2 Gauge Cable Set (Plum Quick) ($175, specs unverified). Our AC vs DC guide and Navitas vs Alltrax vs Teekon comparison help you pick.

FAQ

Can I put a 48V lithium battery in a 36V EZGO TXT?

Not on a stock 36V system. The controller and solenoid are rated for 36V and can be damaged. Buy a 36V lithium kit, or plan a full 48V upgrade with a 48V-rated controller, heavy-duty solenoid, heavier cables and a 48V charger.

How do I know if my EZGO TXT is 36V or 48V?

Count the batteries under the seat and multiply by the voltage on top of one. Six 6V batteries is 36V; six 8V batteries is 48V.

What does the Epoch EZGO TXT lithium kit include?

Epoch lists the 48V 105Ah battery, a 48V 15A charger with a 10 ft cord, a Bluetooth gauge, a remote on/off switch, a 25A 48V-to-12V converter, an EZGO TXT charge-port plug and TXT mounting brackets. A main fuse isn't included.

Can I keep my old charger after a lithium conversion?

No. Lead-acid chargers won't charge or balance a LiFePO4 pack properly. Both Epoch and Vatrer include a lithium charger with their kits.

How far will a lithium EZGO TXT go?

Epoch estimates 35 to 45+ miles for many standard carts on its 105Ah kit, and Vatrer lists up to 50 miles for its 105Ah kit and up to 70 for its 150Ah kit. Hills, lifts, big tires and load all cut range.
