Epoch vs Vatrer lithium for a Club Car DS (and Precedent, TXT)
Last updated
Short answer: Both are 48V 105Ah LiFePO4 kits with a 200A BMS. Vatrer's Mini is about $650-$720 cheaper ($1,579.99, or $1,649.99 with a 12V converter). Epoch's $2,299 MINI DS kit adds DS brackets, a DS charge-port plug, a 25A converter and an 11-year limited warranty. Get Vatrer to save money, or Epoch for the easiest DS install.

Both of these are 48V-class, 105Ah LiFePO4 packs with a 200A BMS, so on paper they hold the same energy (about 5.4 kWh) and will drive a stock cart about the same. The real differences are price, what's in the box, how each company backs it, and whether the case fits your tray. I went through both sellers' product pages line by line (checked November 1, 2026) so you don't have to.
The quick version
- Vatrer is about $650-$720 cheaper. The Vatrer 48V 105Ah Mini Lithium Golf Cart Battery Kit (tight trays) ($1,579.99) lists at $1,579.99 with the charger and screen, or $1,649.99 if you add Vatrer's 48V-to-12V converter. The Epoch 48V 105Ah MINI Golf Cart Battery Complete Kit (BB51105A_MINI-kit-1) ($2,299) is $2,299 and already includes a converter.
- Epoch's DS kit is more plug-and-play on a DS. It comes with DS mounting brackets and a DS charge-port plug. Vatrer lists the DS as compatible, but doesn't list DS-specific brackets or a charge-port plug.
- Epoch has the stronger written warranty. Epoch: 11-year limited, with the first 5 years free repair or replacement, then 40% off a replacement through year 11. Vatrer: "10-year warranty" on the product page, without the terms spelled out there.

Neither kit includes a main fuse or breaker. Epoch says so outright on its page. Plan on a DC-rated fuse or breaker near the battery positive either way.
Will it fit my DS tray?
The DS battery bay was built around six 8V lead-acid batteries, so either single pack leaves room. What matters is the footprint and how you strap it down. The Vatrer Mini is the shorter box (13.19 in long vs 15.8 in) but a little wider (12.2 in vs 11.1 in). One Vatrer reviewer says theirs "fit fine" in a 2002 DS. Epoch's kit has brackets made for the DS, which is the main reason it's the less fiddly install. With the Vatrer, plan on making sure the hold-down actually clamps the case solidly before you drive it.
Before you order either, measure your tray and check the seat clearance. Tape a 13 x 12 in and a 16 x 11 in rectangle on cardboard and set it in the bay. Two minutes with a tape measure saves a return-freight bill on a 90-100 lb box.
The Club Car charging gotcha (both brands)
Older 48V DS carts with an onboard computer (OBC) control charging through it, and a lithium charger won't play nice with it. Epoch's page says OBC-equipped Club Cars may need an OBC bypass. The same applies to the Vatrer. Epoch's kit also includes the DS charge-port plug, so the included charger plugs into the cart's own port. With the Vatrer, ask Vatrer which plug their charger ships with before you order, or plan to charge another way. Not sure which DS you have? The cart identifier sorts out series, IQ and the 36V carts, and 36V carts need more than a battery swap to go to 48V.
Precedent and EZGO TXT
For the Precedent, TXT and RXV, Epoch sells the standard-size Epoch 48V 105Ah Golf Cart Battery Complete Kit (BB51105A-Kit) ($2,299) ($2,299, 18.1 x 13.4 x 9.8 in, 99 lb, the same 15A charger, 25A converter and brackets). Vatrer's full-size Vatrer 48V 105Ah Lithium Golf Cart Battery Conversion Kit ($1,579.99) is $1,579.99 with an 18A charger, LCD, cables and terminal covers, $1,649.99 with the converter and a hold-down strap. Vatrer lists 102.5 lb, 400A peak and up to 600A surge, and it's UL 2271 listed. Vatrer lists it as fitting 48V Club Car, EZGO and Yamaha carts but doesn't give a tray-by-tray list, so measure. Both Mini packs also fit these carts if you'd rather have extra room under the seat.
Which one should you get?
- You want the cheapest good 48V lithium and don't mind sorting out the mounting yourself: Vatrer. Same capacity and BMS rating for hundreds less, and the 18A charger is a bit quicker. Add the converter option if you run lights or a radio.
- You want a DS kit that bolts in with the right brackets and plug, and the longest written warranty: Epoch. The extra money buys the DS-specific hardware, an included converter and a clearer 11-year warranty.
- Cold climate: both list low-temperature charge protection. Vatrer spells out its cutoff (stops below 32°F, resumes above 41°F). Neither of these Mini kits is self-heating.
- Planning a motor and controller upgrade later: either is fine for a 48V AC kit with up to 200A continuous draw. For a high-amp controller, check the peak numbers above against the controller's rating, and read our AC vs DC guide.
Prices change often, so check the seller's page before you buy. Then drop the pack into the JuiceMyCart planner with your cart, and it will flag charger, voltage and current conflicts with the rest of your build.
FAQ
Does the Vatrer Mini fit a Club Car DS?
Vatrer lists the Club Car DS as compatible, and the case is 13.19 x 12.2 x 10.04 in. It doesn't come with DS-specific brackets, so measure your tray and plan how you'll hold it down.
What comes in the Epoch Club Car DS kit?
Epoch lists the 48V 105Ah MINI battery, a 48V 15A charger, a 10 ft cord, a Bluetooth gauge, a 6 ft remote switch harness, a 25A 48V-to-12V converter, a DS charge-port plug and DS mounting brackets. A main fuse isn't included.
Is Epoch or Vatrer more powerful?
Both list 200A continuous. Epoch lists 700A peak for 2 seconds. Vatrer's Mini page says 600A for 3 seconds in the description and 400A for 35 seconds in the spec tab. For a stock or 48V AC kit, both are plenty.
What warranty do Epoch and Vatrer give?
Epoch lists an 11-year limited warranty: 5 years free repair or replacement, then 40% off a replacement through year 11. Vatrer's product page lists a 10-year warranty.
Do I need an OBC bypass for lithium in a Club Car DS?
OBC-equipped Club Cars may need an OBC bypass for a lithium charger, as Epoch notes. It applies to either brand, so ask the seller which steps apply to your year.
Which is better for an EZGO TXT or Club Car Precedent?
Epoch's standard 105Ah kit is $2,299 with a converter and brackets, and Vatrer's full-size 105Ah kit is $1,579.99 ($1,649.99 with a converter). Vatrer costs less, while Epoch includes more in the box and has the longer written warranty.
