EZGO RXV lithium conversion: 48V AC cart, kits and what else you need
Last updated
Short answer: Most electric EZGO RXVs are factory 48V AC carts, so a lithium conversion is mostly a 48V battery-and-charger swap that keeps the stock AC motor and controller. Epoch's 105Ah kit ($2,299) lists RXV brackets, an RXV charge-port plug and a 25A 12V converter; Vatrer's 105Ah kit is $1,579.99 ($1,649.99 with a converter) and lists RXV without cart-specific brackets, so measure the tray.

Most electric EZGO RXV carts are factory 48V AC machines: one lead-acid bank under the seat, an AC motor and a stock AC controller. Converting to lithium is mostly a battery-and-charger swap that keeps the stock drive. This guide shows how to confirm what you have, compares the 48V kits we track with RXV-specific fit notes, and lists charge-port, tray, 12V, fuse and cold-weather details. Prices and specs come from the sellers' own pages, checked November 5, 2026.
Step 1: confirm year, voltage and that it isn't already lithium
E-Z-GO launched the RXV as a 48V platform. Lift the seat and count the lead-acid batteries, then read the voltage on one. Four 12V batteries or six 8V batteries both make 48V; the tray and hold-downs differ, so photograph the bay before you order brackets. If the cart is an ELiTE (factory lithium), stop — this guide is for lead-acid RXVs only. Serial plates and controller labels also help: early RXVs (about 2008–2011) often use a Danaher 23-pin controller, later ones a Curtis 35-pin, and that matters if you add a controller upgrade later. Our cart identifier decodes EZGO codes when the plate is readable.
Step 2: pick a 48V lithium kit (stock AC stays)
On a stock 48V RXV you keep the AC motor and controller. One 51.2V LiFePO4 pack replaces the whole lead-acid bank, and the kit's lithium charger replaces the lead-acid charger. Epoch lists an EZGO RXV bracket and charge-port configuration on its full-size 105Ah kit. Vatrer lists EZGO RXV among compatible 48V carts but does not publish RXV-specific brackets, so measure the tray. Eco Battery's thru-hole bundle explicitly lists the RXV with a plastic tray (metal-tray RXVs need Eco's separate "Skinny" option, which we do not track yet).

Epoch's box is the most complete for a typical RXV: cart-specific brackets, charge-port plug, 12V converter and an 11-year limited warranty. Vatrer's 105Ah kit costs about $650–$720 less and is UL 2271 listed; plan your own hold-down if you skip the strap option. The 150Ah Vatrer kit adds roughly 43% more energy if the larger case fits. Do not order Epoch's DS Mini kit (Epoch 48V 105Ah MINI Golf Cart Battery Complete Kit (BB51105A_MINI-kit-1) ($2,299)) or Epoch's 36V TXT kit (Epoch 36V 100Ah Golf Cart Battery Complete Kit - Lithium (LiFePO4), config EZGO TXT ($1,799)) for an RXV — those are different platforms. Our Epoch vs Vatrer comparison and 105Ah vs 150Ah guide go deeper on the pack choice.
What else to plan for
- Charge port and tray: Epoch and Eco Battery sell RXV charge-port plugs with their kits. Vatrer does not list a cart-specific port, so confirm how you will plug the included lithium charger into the cart. Measure plastic vs metal trays before ordering Eco Battery.
- Old charger: retire the lead-acid charger. Epoch and Vatrer both say lead-acid chargers will not properly charge or balance a LiFePO4 pack. See the lithium charger guide.
- 12V accessories: lights and radios that ran off one lead-acid battery need a 48V-to-12V converter once the bank is a single pack. Epoch includes a 25A converter (40–90V in); Vatrer offers one as a kit option. See the 12V converter guide.
- Main fuse: Epoch says its kit does not include a main fuse or DC breaker and recommends one as close as practical to the battery positive terminal. Size it to your cables and controller.
- Cold weather: do not charge below freezing. Epoch's BMS blocks charging under 32°F with no heater; Vatrer stops charging below 32°F and resumes at 41°F or above.
- Controller current: keep any upgraded controller within the pack's ratings. Epoch lists 200A continuous, 300A for 15 seconds and 700A for 2 seconds on the 105Ah kit; Vatrer's 105Ah kit lists 200A continuous with higher short peaks.
Optional: more power without swapping the AC motor
Because the RXV is already AC, "more speed" is usually a controller-only upgrade that keeps the stock motor, not a full AC conversion like a TXT or Club Car DS. Options we track include the Navitas TAC2 Kit 600A EZ-GO RXV CAN (10-000881-19) controller kit ($1,050, specs unverified), the Alltrax AC1-RXV Curtis 35-pin (2012-present) controller ($989, specs unverified) (Curtis 35-pin, 2012–present; Alltrax also lists a Danaher 23-pin 2008–2011 version) and the Plum Quick GreenXtreme Navitas TAC2 EZ-GO AC 600A Controller Conversion Kit with OTF (RXV) ($1,000). Match the kit to your controller connector year, stay inside the lithium pack's continuous and peak current limits, and read our Navitas vs Alltrax vs Teekon comparison and AC vs DC guide before you buy.

Prices change often, so check the seller's page before you buy. Then add your cart and parts to the JuiceMyCart planner, and it will flag voltage, charger and current conflicts in your build.
FAQ
Is an EZGO RXV already an AC cart?
Yes for typical electric RXVs: E-Z-GO launched the RXV as a 48V AC platform. Confirm on the controller and motor labels, and skip this lead-acid guide if the cart is already an ELiTE factory-lithium model.
Do I need a new motor to put lithium in an EZGO RXV?
Usually no. On a stock 48V RXV you keep the AC motor and controller and replace the lead-acid bank and charger with a matched 48V lithium kit.
What does the Epoch EZGO RXV lithium kit include?
Epoch lists the 48V 105Ah battery, a 48V 15A charger with a 10 ft cord, a Bluetooth gauge, a remote on/off switch, a 25A 48V-to-12V converter, an EZGO TXT & RXV charge-port plug and EZGO RXV mounting brackets. A main fuse isn't included.
Will Vatrer's 48V kit fit an EZGO RXV?
Vatrer lists EZGO RXV among compatible 48V carts. It does not publish RXV-specific brackets on the product page, so measure your tray (105Ah case 19.69 x 12.52 x 9.61 in; 150Ah case 22.01 x 12.13 x 10.98 in) and plan a hold-down.
Can I upgrade the RXV controller after lithium?
Yes, as a controller-only upgrade that keeps the stock AC motor, as long as the controller stays within the pack's current ratings. Match Navitas or Alltrax kits to your Danaher 23-pin or Curtis 35-pin year.
